How to Download Firmware Files from firmware.morningstar.io

You can download the latest firmware files for your Morningstar controller directly from our firmware portal:

This article explains how to find the correct firmware file for your device and what the different firmware versions mean.

Step 1 — Open the Firmware Portal

Go to:

👉 https://firmware.morningstar.io/

You will see a list of supported Morningstar devices and firmware versions.

Step 2 — Select Your Device

Choose the firmware section that matches your controller model.

For example:

• MC3
• MC6 Pro
• MC8
• ML10X
• MC6 MKII

Each section contains:

• The latest firmware release
• Older firmware releases
• Release notes
• Download links

Step 3 — Read the Release Notes

Before downloading, it is recommended to review the release notes for:

• New features
• Improvements
• Bug fixes
• Breaking changes

The firmware portal includes a detailed changelog for every release.

Step 4 — Choose the Correct Firmware Type

Most firmware releases include 2 different firmware files:

MIDI + Keyboard

This firmware exposes the USB connection as:

• MIDI device
• Keyboard device

Choose this version for normal computer use.

MIDI Only

This firmware exposes the USB connection as:

• MIDI device only

Choose this version if:

• Your USB host device has compatibility issues
• Your iPad/tablet/device incorrectly detects the controller as a keyboard
• You are connecting to certain MIDI USB hosts

Morningstar publishes both versions for compatibility purposes.

Step 5 — Download the Firmware File

Click the Download button beside the firmware you want.

The downloaded file will usually have a .hex extension.

Example:

2025-08-29_MC3_Firmware_v_3_13_6.hex

Save the file somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder or Desktop.

Step 6 — Install the Firmware

To install the firmware onto your controller, you will also need the:

Morningstar Firmware Updater

You can download it from:

👉 https://www.morningstar.io/downloads

Then:

1. Connect your controller via USB
2. Open the Firmware Updater
3. Select your controller
4. Select the .hex firmware file you downloaded
5. Click Upload

Downloading Older or Beta Firmware Versions

Older firmware releases and beta versions are also available.

To access them:

1. Open your device firmware page
2. Scroll to older releases
3. Select the firmware version you want

You can also browse all releases through the GitHub Releases page linked from the firmware portal.

Important Notes

• Always ensure you are downloading firmware for the correct device model.
• Do not disconnect USB power during a firmware update.
• If a firmware update fails, your controller can usually be recovered by re-uploading the firmware using the Firmware Updater.
