Re-arranging Banks (v3.7)

This feature is superseded by the Custom Bank Feature introduced in Firmware v3.8

This feature allows you to re-arrange the banks in your device.

Besides using this feature, you can also consider using the Swap Bank feature to swap banks around

Use Case

Say you have programmed your device as such:

Bank 1: Looper Controls

Bank 2: Acoustic

Bank 3: Bass

Bank 4: Rock Guitar

Now, for whatever reason, maybe your gig set-list changed and now you need to re-arrange the banks so that the Rock Guitar bank is shifted to the first bank, and Looper Controls should now be in Bank 4, like this:

Bank 1: Rock Guitar

Bank 2: Acoustic

Bank 3: Bass

Bank 4: Looper Controls

One way to do this is to copy the Looper Controls bank to an unused bank number, then copy the Rock Guitar bank to Bank 1, and then copy the Looper Controls bank to Bank 4. Now, imagine if you need to re-arrange a lot more banks, it’s a bit of hassle, eh?

Now, with this Bank Arranger update, you can easily shift banks around.

Concept

Slots are “Memory Slots” where the different Bank data and the Preset data in the bank are stored.

When the feature is Off, all the Bank numbers correspond to the Slot numbers. This is how the internal bank arrangement looks like:

Hence, scrolling through the banks will call the corresponding slots in sequence.

When this feature is turned on, you can edit how the Bank corresponds to the Slots. This is how the internal bank arrangement can possibly look like:

You now have the ability to map different Banks to different Slots. Hence, as you scroll through the banks, the device is actually using slots in different locations. For example, the data that you have in your Bank 2 can now be accessed in Bank 1.

At anytime you decide that you do not need this feature, you can easily turn it off so your banks will correspond with the original sequence.

How to use

This option is available in the Global Configuration Menu as BankArng

On entering the menu, there are a few options available to select.

On/Off - Turns On or Off this feature
Edit - Enters a menu for you to arrange the banks. This feature has to be turned on before you can enter this menu.
Reset - Resets your settings so the Bank numbers correspond to the Slot numbers.
Exit - Exits this menu

Editing Bank Arrangements

When Edit is selected, the device will show a screen like below:

The upper row shows the mapping between Bank and Slots.

The lower row shows the Bank Name for that Slot.

On the MC8, you can press A and B to go to the next or previous Bank, and D and H to scroll between different slots. The bank names will change as you scroll through the slots.

In the image above, Bank 1 corresponds with the data in Slot 1, where the Bank Name is saved as Acoustic. Press H to scroll up on the Slot number.

In the image above, Bank 1 now corresponds to the data in Slot 3, where the Bank Name is saved as Bass.

Saving your settings

At Bank 30, pressing the Next will bring up an option for you to save the mappings. You can also press E to save your settings.

Conclusion

Now, Bank 1 will show the Bass bank instead of the Acoustic bank.

Important Notes

When editing your Bank information, you might want to consider turning the feature off so that you have access to all the Slots. If the feature is On and if you have, for example, Slot 4 that is not mapped to any Banks, you will never be able to edit the data in Slot 4.

When dumping all your banks into a .syx file, the device will dump data for all the Slots, which means that data will be dumped as per when the Bank Arranger is turned OFF.
