What to do if your controller is stuck in a reboot loop

What is a reboot loop

When the controller powers on, and then hangs and then reboots itself in an ongoing cycle

Possible causes

It is usually related to the Bank Presets that are executing when the controller boots up. It might be related to a firmware bug or how the preset is programmed - usually using Engage Preset messages may cause this, depending on the exact settings.

Solution

Safe Mode

It is possible to boot the controller in Safe Mode, so that none of the presets will execute. Hold down Switch B on boot up so that the controller boots up in Safe Mode. You can then make the necessary edits to your preset.

Update Firmware

When stuck in a reboot loop, the firmware updater may not be able to properly detect the controller to allow you to downgrade the firmware.

Holding down the RESET tact button on the circuit board, before powering up, and then releasing the button after 3 seconds, should put the controller in Bootloader Mode to allow you to do a firmware update
